Week of January 22

If you were at our worship gathering yesterday, you heard that our building was broken into overnight Saturday. This person broke through a window, broke through the locked door of our office, and stole our office computer. This person also broke into a locked cabinet and stole a church debit card and a stack of checks. Nothing else appears damaged, and the police/bank/insurance company are all aware and involved. The computer is password protected, and the debit card and checks have been cancelled with no apparent activity (aside from about $8.00 in purchases at McDonalds Sunday morning!).

Jesus tells his followers to be ‘as wise as serpents and as gentle as doves’ (Matthew 10:16). Following up on this event, our Leadership Team will be looking to wisely respond (not react), which will include evaluating our security options, while at the same time maintaining a gentle posture (not fearful) toward our neighborhood. We believe we are called to be Christ’s body in our city, and this means love and hope and grace in each and every situation. Pray for us as we deal with the details of getting things back together, but even more that through this we’ll learn how to even more faithfully embody the arms-open Spirit of Jesus. And pray also for the brother/sister responsible for this break-in, that he/she/they will experience the healing power of God’s grace.

Grace & Peace,
Pastor Marc
