Here’s what SOMA’s up to:

WORSHIP GATHERING

October 1stWorship Gathering, Communion, Children’s Environment, and Fellowship Meal

We will meet at our regular time of 11:15am at The Well (1401 6th Ave) to share conversation, pray and sing together. Children’s Environment will be available for kids in kindergarten through 5th grade and we will share in Communion together. After the service, we will have our fellowship meal.

THIS WEEK

Farmers’ Market – Monday, September 25th

Every Monday from 3:30-6:30pm in Municipal Parking Lot, Corner of 8th Avenue & 12th Street.

Men’s Night – Monday, September 25th

Every Monday @ 6:30pm at The Well will be a Men’s Night for guys to meet, hang out, and encourage each other. All men are welcome!

Neighborhood Watch Meeting – September 25th

7:00 pm at the Second Baptist Church (Fellowship Hall Annex), 2322 10th Ave., Beaver Falls. These monthly meetings last approximately one hour and provide residents with an opportunity to ask questions and register concerns.  The program this week is  “Meet the Commissioner” presented by Sandie Egley, Beaver County Commissioner.

Tiger Pause Benefit: Pittsburgh Pirates Players –  September 25th

Tiger Pause Youth Ministry has invited the Pittsburgh Pirate Players David Freese and Josh Bell to Beaver Falls on September 25, 2017 from 6pm to 8pm. This is a fundraiser to be located at Beaver County Auto. Tickets are $20 and will benefit Tiger Pause. There will also be an auction featuring items such as signed jerseys, bats, etc. There will be a Chinese Auction and a Silent Auction, and a 50/50 tickets sales. You are encouraged to bring pictures or other Pirate items to get autographs [one item per person]. Please call 724 843 2384 for more info.

Canning Night – Wednesday, September 27th

Instead of our weekly Garden Night, this week we will be canning some produce. Meet at The Well at 5pm to join in and take home a few jars!

Youth Dance Class – Thursday, September 28th

This class has drop in and ongoing registration so it’s not too late to join in! Offered for ALL children and youth ages 5 and up! Pay as you go and pay what you are able options are available. Early fall session: September 7 – October 5. Class is held Thursdays, from 5:30-6:30pm at The Well. Cost is $25/session. Email crawford.julia@gmail.com to join in – or just show up!

Women’s Movement Group – Thursday, September 28th

This fall we are going to keep dancing together as we expand our movement range and honor our stories! Early fall session: August 24 – October 5. Class is held Thursdays from 7-8pm at The Well. Pay what makes you happy ($5-10 suggested)

Drop In Hours – Friday, September 29th

Join in our Friday open hours at The Well! Anyone is welcome to come use the space from 10am – 4pm.

Community Groups

September is the time to sign up for Community Groups, which we looking to start up again in October.  Sign up for a group on the visitor card or by replying to the email.  Open groups include:

– Tuesday @ 7pm

– A Recovery-focused group Fridays @ 1pm

– A weekend group (specific date/time TBD, based on people’s availability)

– A weekday morning group (specific date/time TBD)

– College student groups

Fundraising Opportunity for Lan Vwa

This week Lan Vwa is raising funds for a project will provide access to middle and high school education for students in the coffee growing village of Joconal, Guatemala. To give or learn more, visit their fundraising page.

 

UPCOMING

Garden Work Night – Wednesdays

Each Wednesday we will have our summer community garden work nights. Meet at the garden (located at 15th St & 1st Ave) from 5-7pm to help out!

A Night at Morado – Sunday, October 8th

CARE Ministries of Christian Assembly is hosting a block party at Morado Dwellings with food, kids crafts, prayer, and bicycle repair by Communicyle. 5pm in the Morado parking lot (rain location: inside the Morado community center).

Beaver Falls Fall Fest – October 28th

Join in the fall festivities! Vendors, food trucks, live music, crafts, Business District trick-or-treat, and family fun in downtown Beaver Falls. There will be opportunities to volunteer coming soon.

Mental Health Conference – October 21

First Presbyterian Church in Beaver is hosting a Mental Health Conference from 9am – 3pm on Saturday, October 21st. Check out the Bridging the Gap brochure for details on the conference. Register online at http://www.fpcbeaver.com/Mental-Health by October 14th.

Prayer Retreat – November 4

On November 4th we will have a Prayer Retreat all-day Saturday at Lamppost Farm, led by Pastor Mark Ongley from Ashes to Life.  There’s no cost, just sign up by replying to this email.

Convergence: Unity in Diversity Symposium – November 11

You are invited to attend Geneva College’s Convergence Symposium on Saturday, November 11 from 10 am – 4 pm. The purpose of the Symposium is to create space to learn and dialogue about how to pursue unity in diversity through Christ. The theme this year is: “Everything in its Right Place: Race, Politics, and Shalom.” Our keynote speaker is Lisa Sharon Harper, author of Left, Right and Christ and The Very Good Gospel. Cost is $20 for the general public; free to Geneva students and staff. GET INVOLVED

Rides for Tyler and Maci 

The Pattersons are looking for help with getting transportation to and from appointments. They recently moved to College Hill. We are looking to put together a team of people who are available to provide a ride once per month. If you are able, get in touch with Dave Slebodnik (724-875-7286).

Youth Facilitator at Soma

We’re hiring! We are looking for a part-time (20 hours per month) Youth Facilitator to provide oversight for our work with teens, both in our church & in Beaver Falls. To apply, email info@thesomagathering.org or call 724.774.6398, ext 104.

College Tutor Needed

We’re looking for a Biology or Chemistry major to help one of our folks with her college classes.  If you’re able to give an hour a week, contact Pastor Marc or reply to this email.

Interested in a Relief Work Trip to Houston?

Scott Katip is hoping to lead a group of us this coming Fall/Winter to Houston, TX to help with the clean-up work needed following Hurricane Harvey.  Possible dates are November 21-27 (over Thanksgiving) & December 26-January 2 (after Christmas). Details still to be determined, but each participant can expect to pay about $200 to cover costs. If you are interested, please let us know which of these dates works for you by replying to this email.

Donations and Volunteers Needed for 24th Annual Christmas Dinner

Items needed: hygiene products and new scarves, socks, gloves, and hats (only), and monetary donations. The dinner is held on Christmas Day from 11:30am – 3:00pm at the Beaver Falls High School; last year, over 1,300 people attended. To volunteer or donate, contact CARE Outreach Ministry at 724-846-3751.

Office Flooring

Young Life is looking for some help with laying the flooring in the office they use at The Well. If you are available to help out, get in touch with Dave at daveslebodnik@gmail.com.
